そもそもなぜこういう一神教と多神教の違いが生まれてきたのかというと、一神教を生み出した民族のルーツは、だいたい砂漠の民なんですね。 砂漠で生きていくためには、つねに正しい選択や正しい決断が迫られる。どっちに行けばオアシスがあるのかということを、的確にジャッジできなければ、熱砂 のなかで死ぬかもしれないわけです。ですからそのジャッジは、つねに二者択一的なものになる。
　もしそのときに、いろんな人が「あっちがオアシスだ」「いやこっちがオアシスだ」とてんでに言い出したら、部族が分裂して壊滅してしまい かねません。だから全員一致で結論を決める。ようするにたった１人のリーダーの決断に従うか、多数決をとって反対者も無理やり従わせてしまいます。これが 一神教的世界のルールの基本なんですね。ですので、一神教型の宗教は、唯一絶対の神だけを信仰する。それを「主なる神」とか「主よ」とか「主神」と呼びま す。
